All jewelry will tarnish eventually, but you can slow down the process. Keep lotions, soap & other chemicals away from your jewelry. Put your jewelry on last and take it off first prior to bathing or in contact with salt water. For cleaning, gently scrub with toothpaste and an old soft-bristle toothbrush. Baking soda in the toothpaste helps rubbing off dirt (the built-up tarnish). After scrubbing, rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly with a dry soft polishing cloth.

When jewelry comes into contact with sweat and oils in the skin, not only useful for protecting your jewelry from turning green and tarnished, but the clear nail polish also helps to avoid any rashes or allergies. Paint a thin layer of clear nail polish on the areas of your jewelry where it will be in contact with your skin. Make sure your clear nail polish is free of formaldehyde (a preservative), toluene (a solvent), parabens (synthetic preservatives) and camphor (which gives a glossy finish and prevents chipping).
